Birthday Club

Happy Birthday to you! The VLM would like to wish all of our members a very happy birthday!  By registering for our birthday club, children ages 3-12 will receive an ecard during their birth month to redeem for a special treat at the Museum. Just bring your ecard in and receive your treat at the front desk. This benefit is available to family level memberships and memberships held by minors.

Haven't signed up yet? Just submit the member name as well as the child's name and birth date (day/month/year) to membership, call 757-595-1900 ext. 240 or sign up the next time you visit the Museum.

Birthday Parties

Looking for something unique to do for your child's birthday? If so, bring your party to the Virginia Living Museum for a fun and exciting celebration. Enjoy a self-guided tour of our indoor exhibits (62,000 sq. ft!) that showcase a variety of live native Virginia animals, including a Chesapeake Bay Touch Tank and four hands-on Discovery Centers. Come travel our lakeside boardwalk and woodland trail to observe pelicans, bobcats, deer and more! Tour indoors to touch 200 million-year-old dinosaur tracks, see a shark up close, and listen to the birds in our aviary!

Saturday: 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, or 3pm
Sunday: 1, 2, or 3pm

Cost
$190 members; $220 non-members

Price includes:   

• Free admission to all indoor and outdoor natural history exhibits. (Planetarium $2 extra per person for members, $4 extra per person for non-members.)
• Lightly decorated birthday room with balloons, tables and chairs for a total of 30 people (you include yourselves in that count. Ages 2 and under are not included in the count.) for one hour. You are allowed 20 minutes before and after your scheduled hour for additional set-up/clean-up.
• 10-minute live animal show just for your group. You may choose two animals from a list available on the day of the party.

You provide:

• All food, ice, beverages and paper products for the party. (Sorry, no refrigeration or freezer facilities available.)

EXTRA TIME: $50 to add 30 minutes and $75 to add 1 hour(must be requested 1 week in advance and is limited to specific party times ~ prior to the 10am Party or after the 3pm Party ONLY)

BUBBLES THE OTTER: The VLM costumed mascot, "Bubbles" will make a special appearance at your child's party, present the birthday child with a balloon bouquet and stay for a 15 minute photo opportunity.  Price - $30 (must be reserved at least 1 week prior to the party)

TEMPORARY TATTOOS: Let us provide some temporary tattoos, supplies and a volunteer to apply them.  Fun for kids of all ages, themes will vary.  Price - $30 (must be reserved at least 1 week prior to the party)

THEMED PARTY: Love Dinosaurs?  Butterflies? Outer Space? We offer several different themed parties which include: 2 table cloths, a centerpiece, napkins and 20 small favors.  Price - $50 (in addition to the regular rental price) (must be reserved 2 weeks in advance, theme to be chosen from our list).

CAKE PICK UP/STORAGE: We will pick up and store your cake from the following retailers:  VLM pick-up, $40 plus the cost of the cake:

COSTCO - $16.00 - $18.99 (48 small slices)

DAIRY QUEEN - 8" Round, feeds 8-10 , $19.99 regular/ $22.99 Blizzard

                        10" Round, feeds 12-16, $21.99 regular/ $25.99 Blizzard

                        Sheet Cake, feeds 20-24, $26.99/no Blizzard option

BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT: Your child's name will be flashed on our lobby monitors as part of our "Birthday Shout Outs".  For an additional fee of $15, you can add your child's picture and a personal greeting.  (Must be reserved as least one week prior to the party.)

PLANETARIUM SHOW: Your group may attend one of our regularly scheduled planetarium programs on the day of your visit. Please be aware that not all shows are appropriate for all ages. Theater shows begin promptly - have your group assembled in the planetarium lobby 15 minutes before your show time to ensure your group can sit together. Price - $50, in addition to the regular rental price. (Must choose your program at least 1 week prior to the party.)

PLANETARIUM BIRTHDAY SHOUT-OUT: Your child's picture and a personal greeting will appear on the dome during the walk-in of your planetarium show. Price - $15, in addition to the regular rental price. (Must be reserved at least 1 week prior to the party.)

Payment must be made at the time of the reservation. We accept Visa, MasterCard or Discover cards over the phone.

You may cancel or change a reservation up to seven days before the party; after that, no refunds can be made. All changes and cancellations incur a $10 service charge.
