Spend Friday night at the Museum learning about all things celestial. These are great for special birthdays, youth groups and scouting troops. Scouts can even earn badges.  


Reservations: Reservations are made on a first come basis and must be made 30 days in advance. Dates fill very quickly. (Groups smaller than 25 may be combined with other small groups to meet the minimum number).


Reservations may be made in person, or by phone, using MasterCard, Visa or Discover credit card. Inquiries can be made by emailing Reservations. For more information, or to make a reservation, call the Reservations Coordinator at 757-595-9135 Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Limited availability.

Spend a night at the Virginia Living Museum learning about all things celestial! Weather and time permitting, groups have the opportunity to view the heavens from our rooftop deck and see space up close through our 16" telescope! Great for special birthdays, youth groups, and scouting troops! Scouts can earn badges during their experience.


Your Astro Camp-In Package includes:


All materials, including the badge, where applicable 

 

  • An overnight "camping" adventure in our exhibits 
  • Gift bags for the kids 
  • Continental breakfast in the morning, snacks during the evening 
  • Admission to the Museum for your group all day Saturday 
  • A guided tour of a portion of the Museum exhibits 
  • A planetarium program  
  • A guided tour of the observatory and rooftop deck (weather permitting) 
Scout Badges:
  • Girl Scouts of all AGE LEVELS - will receive an Abbitt Planetarium Fun Patch
    • With the new Journey badge requirements there are no specific "space related" badges.

    Basic Information

    Group Size: 25 to 70 children and adults

    Fee: $30 per child; 1 adult per 5 children, free; Additional adults $20.

    Minimum Fee: $750 (25 people). Small groups may combine to meet the minimum

    Maximum Participants: 70 children and adults


    Requirements: $50 deposit required at time of reservation. The deposit is non-refundable if the reservation is canceled within 30 days of the camp-in and the opening cannot be filled.

    Groups may arrange a private dinner at the Wild Side Café prior to the camp-in.
