Virginia Living Museum presents two holiday shows in renovated Abbitt Planetarium Nov. 20, 2008 The Virginia Living Museum Abbitt Planetarium reopens Dec. 6 with two holiday programs: “Star of Wonder: The Mystery of the Christmas Star” and “Laser Holidays.” Both will be presented through Dec. 31 as full-dome immersive experiences with the planetarium’s new state-of-the-art digital projection system.
For 43 years, planetarium viewers have journeyed in the footsteps of the magi, seeking the identity of a mysterious star that foretold the coming of a king. Over the years, the scientific thinking has changed, archeology has revealed new clues about the lands in which these events took place, and our understanding of who the magi might actually have been has grown. Our best theory for what the sign of the wise men might have been has changed, too. Now, it is time for us once again to update our understanding. But this time, the change will be like no other. This time, we will take you there like never before.
“Star of Wonder: The Mystery of the Christmas Star” is a truly immersive look at the journey of the magi, examining the latest clues and seeking once more to understand the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem. The program is recommended for ages 8 and above.
The presentation of “Star of Wonder: The Mystery of the Christmas Star” is made possible by E&S Spitz.
It will be shown Wednesday through Friday at 2:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Special holiday show times Dec. 20-23 and 26-31 at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
Also showing will be “Laser Holidays.” Get into the holiday spirit with the music of the season and dazzling laser effects! Featuring classic holiday favorites like Burl Ives’ “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” modern hits like Randy Travis’ “Jingle Bell Rock,” and unique reimaginings of timeless songs like Enya’s beautiful “Oiche Chiun (Silent Night),” this delightful program is fun for the whole family. It’s an animated Christmas light display like no other you’ve ever seen! Recommended for ages 6 and above.
“Laser Holidays” will be shown Wednesday through Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. Special holiday times Dec. 22-23, 26-27 and 29-31 at 11:30 a.m.
