Part-time permanent position
General Statement of Duties
Assist in all aspects of the husbandry of amphibians and reptiles native to Virginia including food preparation, food culturing, feeding and cleaning of collection, maintenance of exhibits, data entry, specimen collection and quarantine, medical procedures, and enrichment. This is a part-time position, 15-25 hours per week without benefits.
Qualifications
- High school graduate with experience in amphibian and reptile husbandry. Current college student or previous college-level work in biology, zoology or related fields preferred. Candidates should have a strong career interest in Herpetology or Zoology.
- Familiar with identifying and handling Virginia’s native reptiles and amphibians.
- Reliable individual who is able to work independently, supervise volunteers and interact with the public.
- Requires effective oral and written communication skills, basic PC skills including the Internet and MS Office.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Hours are flexible, but must be able to work some weekdays, weekends, holidays and extended hours when needed.
- Previous experience with aquariums, venomous reptiles or veterinary science is a plus.
