Full -time with benefits position
The Virginia Living Museum, a regional nature center, wildlife park and botanical garden in Newport News, is seeking an individual with horticulture or biology knowledge and experience to join our horticulture staff.
General Statement of Duties
Under the supervision of the Horticulture Curator, the Assistant Horticulture Curator maintains the museum grounds, display gardens, indoor and outdoor habitats, greenhouses and nursery. This individual also makes recommendations for exhibit improvements and design changes. Duties may include the use of power equipment. This is a full-time position with benefits.
Qualifications
- B.S. Degree In Horticulture, Biology or related field,
- or two year degree in Horticulture, Biology or related field and some related work experience.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License or equivalent.
- Ability to supervise others, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Some knowledge of Virginia's native flora.
- Experience using PC and Microsoft programs.
- Must have a passion for plants and a desire to learn about them.
- Ability to do heavy physical work and to work outdoors in inclement weather when necessary.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
