What's for lunch?Goldfinch

With the largest collection of native plants in Virginia, the Virginia Living Museum is a well-stocked wildlife “lunch stop” for birds and butterflies traveling along the migration highway.

  • Why are native plants vital to our ecosystem?
  • What does this have to do with the Health of the Chesapeake Bay?

Your generosity supports our educational horticulture program. You help make the VLM more enjoyable for all our visitors, including those with wings.

otterWith your help, he's learned how to be an otter!

  • Without a natural mother, this little guy arrived at the VLM not knowing how to swim or dive.
  • Now, our little otter has grown to be a healthy and energetic adult male — delighting visitors with his antics.
  • Thanks to you, we are able to provide the closest thing to a natural home and the highest quality of care for all our exhibit animals.

Your donation ensures that we have highly qualified staff to care for our animals’ physical health with balanced diets and wellness checks, while providing training and enrichment activities for mental stimulation as well. Thanks for making our exhibits "Otter-this world"!

Your "cool" gift!

  • The VLM is the perfect oasis during the hot summer months.
  • Parents come to cool off while their children can explore and learn through 2 floors of exhibits.
  • Our summer classes and camps are another “cool” way for children to learn about science.

Thanks to you, kids as young as four are introduced to nature and science by our faculty of amazing educators.
