Virginia Living Museum Celebrates THANKS and GIVING with Turkey Pardon and Food Drive

In the tradition of the Annual Presidential Turkey Pardoning, Newport News Mayor McKinley Price will celebrate the long and healthy life of a wild turkey at the Virginia Living Museum on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m.

The museum marks the season of THANKS and GIVING with the ceremony on the outdoor trail next to the deer and turkey habitat. Museum visitors are invited to attend.

“We are most grateful for the community support of our many injured, non-releasable animals that help connect people to the natural world,” said VLM Executive Director, Page Hayhurst. “The Museum’s wild turkeys are active and engaging animal ambassadors and this is a perfect time of year to learn more about them!"

Also, now through Nov. 24 the Wild Side Cafe at the Virginia Living Museum will give a bottomless fountain drink for every non-perishable food donation brought to the admission desk. Collection bins are located in the museum lobby. The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula will benefit from all donations.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.

Admission is $17 for adults and $13 for children (ages 3-12). Ages 2 and under are free.

The museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, I64, exit 258A.
