Virginia Living Museum

Celebrates THANKS and GIVING

with 2nd  Annual Turkey Pardoning & Food Drive

turkey pardon

For the second year, the Virginia Living Museum will celebrate the long and healthy life of our wild turkey during our Annual Turkey Pardoning, Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11am.

In the tradition of the Annual Presidential Turkey Pardoning, Newport News Vice Mayor Madeline McMillan will lead the ceremony held on the Virginia Living Museum’s outdoor trail beside the Turkey/Deer Habitat.

Museum visitors are invited to attend the ceremony which marks the beginning of a season of thanks and giving.

“We are most grateful for the community support of our many injured, non-releasable animals that help connect people to the natural world,” said VLM Executive Director, Page Hayhurst. “The Museum’s wild turkeys are active and engaging animal ambassadors and this is a perfect time of year to learn more about them!"

The VLM wild turkey exhibit is proudly supported by The National Wild Turkey Federation, Colonial Longbeards Chapter.

Also, now through November 23rd the Wild Side Café at the Virginia Living Museum will give every visitor who donates a non-perishable food item, a free promo sized fountain drink with any café purchase.  Items will be collected in bins in the museum lobby and vouchers for drinks will be distributed at the admissions desk. The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula will benefit from all donations.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24.

Admission is $17 for adults and $13 for children (ages 3-12). Ages 2 and under are free.

The museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, I64, exit 258A.
