Sharing Nature Together  (3-year-olds and a caregiver)kids

Three-year-olds along with a parent or grandparent are introduced to nature through creative activities.

Nature Adventure Club (Grades K-3)
After-school programs provide non-stop adventure for children from kindergarten to third grade. They can see what goes on "behind-the-scenes" and complete wildlife projects. 


Saturday Science Explorers (Grades 4-5)
Saturday science programs for 4th and 5th grade children.



Birthdays  

Happy Birthday to you! The Virginia Living Museum would like to wish all of our members a very happy birthday!  By registering for ourkids smiling birthday club, children ages 3-12 will receive a postcard during their birth month to redeem for a special treat at the Museum. Just bring your postcard in and receive your treat at the front desk. This benefit is available to family level memberships and memberships held by minors.

Haven't signed up yet? Just submit the member name as well as the child's name and birth date (day/month/year) to membership, call 757-595-1900 ext. 240 or sign up the next time you visit the Museum.

Special Programs


Story Time
Story Time is the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m.. Volunteer Tede Johnson will read a different story each month with a corresponding live animal show. Recommended for ages two and above. Included in regular Museum admission.

Weekend Safaris 
Explore the near and far wonders of nature on a safari with the Virginia Living Museum. Travel with us to discover the enchantment and beauty of our natural world. Our safaris offer you and your family an excellent opportunity to visit places you may not see on your own—even to sites not ordinarily open to the public.


Holiday Programs
The Museum offers Spring Break and holiday programs for children. Our Spring Break program: Nature Fun and Fitness will be held April 2-4. Please register in advance.


Homeschool Families

The Museum offers FREE curriculum guides to homeschool families. Once a year, the Museum also offers homeschool families a full day of natural and space science programs. The next Homeschool Day will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.


Astro Camp-Ins 
Groups spend Friday night at the Museum learning about all things celestial. 


Animal Aid ClubAnimal Aid Club

Kids, join our Animal Aid Club and participate in projects that help feed our animals.

Summer Programs

Children ages four through grade 5 can meet live, touchable animals, explore the Museum and enjoy crafts and other activities in week-long  (morning and full day) summer programs that explore nature and space. Register early, popular programs sell out quickly.


Special Program: Turtle Census

Students who have completed grades 6-8 can join us for three Saturdays (May 18, June 1, June 18) to help conduct a census of the basking turtles in the lake on the Museum campus.


Summer Field Adventure

Children who have completed sixth and seventh grades can spend an exciting, fun-filled week exploring nature in the mountains.


Eco Careers

Students who have completed grades 10 or 11 can spend three days assisting with and learning about careers in the museum and conservation fields.
