Virginia Living Museum offers half price to military Nov. 1 – Dec. 15
Oct. 27, 2008

The Virginia Living Museum in Newport News salutes all members of the military with a special half price admission discount Nov. 1 through Dec. 15.

The discount applies to all active and retired military members and their families. A military ID is required. Regular admission is $15 for adults and $12 for children (ages 3-12). Ages 2 and under are free. Military members also receive a 10 percent discount on museum memberships.

“The museum is honored to recognize the contributions military personnel make to our nation and our community,” said VLM Executive Director Page Hayhurst. “The VLM is dedicated to serving the local community and Hampton Roads is home to one of the nation's largest concentrations of military personnel, (300,000 in an area with a total population of 1.8 million).”

Virginia’s natural heritage comes alive at the Virginia Living Museum. The museum introduces visitors to more than 250 living species native to Virginia through exhibits, discovery centers and interactive hands-on exhibits. A visit to the museum brings people in contact with more habitats, wildlife and plant species than would be encountered in a lifetime of outdoor adventures in Virginia.

The current special exhibit is “Wild Music, Sounds and Songs of Life.” Jam with a whale. Talk like a tiger. Or sing like a songbird. Learn the music of nature, and the very nature of music. Wild Music is a fun, whimsical hands-on exhibit that explores the science of sound in nature and in life. Explore the ways in which the songs and sounds of living things help us relate to one another. Use all sorts of interesting activities to create distinct, unique musical masterpieces.

The museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, I64, exit 258A.

Winter hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
