April 17-18: Earth Day Weekend Earth Day logo

The Virginia Living Museum celebrates Earth Day with a weekend of special activities for our animals. Watch the animals receive toys, treats and other enrichment activities to stimulate natural behaviors. See the bobcat play with a feather toy, watch the red wolves search for treats hidden in heads of cabbage, and the raccoon finger paint, all part of activities that usually occur behind-the-scenes.

Learn ways to help the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling waste. Several environmental organizations will have displays and information about conservation measures.

Exhibitors include: Animal Aid Club, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Ferguson Enterprises, Green Drinks, Hampton Land Conservancy, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter, TFC Recycling, Virginia Natural Gas and Wildlife Response.

Vendors include: Boo's Records, CAPITS Jewelry, Earth Rock Design's Jewelry, Green Alternatives, Green Caffeine, Lavaliers By Charles, Paula's Palette and Swing Set Designs.

Tree seedlings, eco-friendly canvas bags and other giveaways will also be available.

There will also be crafts for kids, thousands of native plants for sale and special earth-friendly animal shows. Plus, check out a car that runs on vegetable oil. Story time will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Included in regular Museum admission $15 adults, $12 children ages 3-12. Ages 2 and under and members are free.

Schedule of Events

Environmental Enrichment is the process of enhancing overall captive animal welfare by providing appropriate activities. Look for enrichment in exhibits throughout the museum and on the trail. Also there will be Education animals exercising in our "Animal Playground" on the trail throughout the day. Stop by several times to see which animals are exercising!

Look for enrichment in the exhibits throughout the Museum and in the Beaver exhibit on the trail.

Check out the eco-friendly car that runs on vegetable oil from the cafe.
